Holiday Gift Guide: The Traveler

Holiday Gift Guide traveler

I love the holiday season and I love giving gifts. It’s so nice to be able to spread love and cheer and there’s nothing more satisfying than buying a gift you know someone will love and seeing their face light up when they open it.

Although gift giving is one of my favorite things, I sometimes struggle with what to buy for people. So as I brainstorm for family and friends this year, I’ve started a holiday gift guide series that will help you buy for even the hardest to-buy-for people. First up is the gift guide for the traveler, because traveling is my favorite and because I want almost everything on this list. Whether your traveler is a male or female, you’ll find something on this list for them!

Be sure to stay tuned for the following gift guides throughout this week for the coffee lover, the chef, and for the people who need or want nothing (sometimes that feels like like everyone I know).

Halo Starlight 3000 Portable Charger

For anyone who’s been in an airport more than a handful of times, you probably know that a lot of them lack something called outlets. My mom bought this for my sister and I for Christmas one year and it is still one of my most useful items when I travel. There’s nothing more annoying than having your phone die in the middle of a journey and having no way to charge it. These portable chargers last a surprisingly long time and since it only needs a USB to plug into it, it’s compatible with almost every phone charger. (It’s now super on sale at Amazon, so get it cheap while you can!)

Scratch Map

If there’s one thing traveler’s love, it’s showing where they’ve been. I personally love maps and think they look awesome as wall art, so these scratch maps are super cool because not only is it decoration, but as you go to a new country you can scratch the top off and it becomes a new color. It’s a really fun way to showcase where you’ve been and add some excitement to your walls.

Old Fashioned Carry-On Cocktail Kit

A friend sent me a link to this not long ago and I’ve been slightly obsessing over it ever since. I love having a few drinks on a plane, but sometimes I kind of wish we were still in the jet age with the classy clothes and classy drinks and all around classiness. No matter who you are, this is a really novel and fun item I can almost guarantee everyone wants to try.

Airplane Self Pull Corkscrew

For the aviation enthusiast this silver airplane corkscrew is a fun way to pay tribute to their passions and interests, while actually giving them something useful. I would honestly love one of these.

Travel Stub Diary

Coming from someone who keeps every boarding pass, train ticket or entry pass, something like this is beyond useful and super cute. Not all travelers buy souvenirs, instead we keep these stubs as our memories and this is a really nice way to keep them all in one place to view and remember. Unlike the box of boarding passes I have sitting on a desk.

Compass Coasters

Although these are technically from a wedding website, I absolutely love them! Personally, I think cork coasters are the best and these simple compass ones are a really nice touch to the home of an avid traveler.

Leather Earphone Holder

One of the most annoying things when traveling is getting headphones tangled. It’s a nightmare to undo and when all you want is to just listen to some music and have a glass of wine on a plane, it’s aggravating to spend five minutes trying to pick apart the cable. These earphone holders/cable organizers are sleek and so handy.

World Map Mug

Everyone enjoys a hot drink every once and a while, and what better way than to further fuel the wanderlust than with a map of the world. As I mentioned before, I love maps, as do most travelers, so having one on a mug at home is a nice way to still feel the connection to travel when having some down time.

I bought this myself at Ikea and I love them. They’re really simple but a really cool way to bring the love of travel into your home.
