Ok guys, I’ve been really bad about blogging the past month. I started working again full time and I haven’t really made a schedule for myself for blogging so it kind of got thrown to the side. I’m really excited about the job I have now though, which is an editorial intern with an English-language magazine in Berlin. However, I realize that I haven’t given the proper attention to my blog that it deserves. So, instead of doing an April Goals post (like I should have done ages ago) I’m going to see how I did on March’s goals and then skip this month while I get back on my feet in the blogging world. I love my blog and I want to grow it a lot more this second year, but I don’t want to pressure myself into doing too much at once when I’m still settling into my new job. So anyway, sorry about the long explanation! But I’m excited to be back and I’m going to work really hard to keep those two posts a week coming from now on. Whew! Ok, now onto the goals from last month.
Blog Goals:
Grow my Pinterest followers. To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m going to call this a win or a lose. I didn’t actively do all that much with Pinterest this past month, but I worked on pinning more than I had before and I did see a fair amount of growth. I’m going to call it a win though, because I have gained lots of new followers, I just know now that if I really want to grow it I’m going to need to work a little harder at it.
Post to Instagram at least 2 times a week. I think I did this pretty successfully and ongoing. I gave my Instagram far more love during March than I had before, and I played around with hashtags and stuff and I feel as though it worked quite well. It didn’t necessarily correlate to an increase in followers, but I posted regularly and I’ll count that as a win for now.
Keep posting 2 times a week, hopefully get up to 3. Ok, we all know this was a big fail. I have no excuse, but I do hope to be better about it from now on now that I’m a bit more settled into my job.
Work on my social media strategy and increase traffic and page views. Meh, I didn’t really do this. I mean, I did it a little, by trying to do more with Pinterest and Instagram than before, but overall I didn’t particularly work that hard at increasing my traffic and page views. Regardless, I’m not going to be too hard on myself, because I know it was important to adjust to this new job before I start worrying about traffic on my blog, since currently it is just a hobby and an outlet for myself.
Personal Goals For March
Settle in Berlin and make friends. Yes I did this! We got settled into the apartment and purchased things to make it feel homey and I met some people through work and I even joined a book club! The book club is made up of people from all nationalities and I’ve really loved meeting them all.
Keep improving my German. Yes again! (I’m not feeling quite as pathetic as I was expecting during the writing of this post.) I finished my German class the day before I started working and I’ve continued using my German apps and have been paying attention to the language around me more. I feel as though I’ve improved more than I thought I might at this point, as I can now order stuff, going to the grocery store without having a panic attack, can understand most advertisements on the U-Bahn and the odd bits of conversations. For just over a month here, I think that’s pretty good.
Workout at least 2 times a week. I did this for a little while, but not as consistently as I would have liked. I did buy myself a yoga mat that I really like and managed to do yoga every day for a solid week, then a few times the week after and then… pretty sporadically. I’m going to try to work harder again. I could use the yoga since I sit at work all day typing on a laptop and it would be good for my body to stretch after all that.
Read All The Light We Cannot See. Yes and then some! I finished this book and I loved it. And as a matter of fact it was the book we discussed in the book club, so it worked out quite well. I also finished reading Dark Places, Sharp Objects and some other books as well, so I think I did quite well with my reading this past month and a bit.
As I said before, I’m not going to do a goals post for this month, but hopefully pick up again for May, but in the meantime I’m going to focus on really trying to get back into the habit of blogging again. Every time I take a hiatus and I come back, I’m reminded just how much I love it and it means to me, so I just need to keep that in mind when I go through this harder parts of creating content. Thanks for sticking with me!
