That title sounds pretty conceited doesn’t it? Well hear me out before you decide I’m going to spend this post praising myself on my perfectly curated photos.
Instagram is great for a lot of things– connecting with friends, sharing photos, adding a filter to a photo to improve it and more. However, despite all of the social aspects to it the reason I love Instagram, specifically my feed, has nothing to do with the social part of it at all.
I’ve been using Instagram now for a few years now. However, when I first started using it I didn’t care about getting any likes and for me the point wasn’t to share with my friends (I think I had maybe 10 followers at the time anyway) and I rarely used captions or hashtags, what I really wanted was to just make my photos look nice. Of course over the years I’ve gravitated towards utilizing it as a tool for my blog and for sharing with friends like it was always meant to, but still, there are photos than go back several years.
Travel has been a big part of my life in the past few years and I’ve had a lot of amazing memories and lots of photos to remember them by. I’ve been to countless countries, cities, airlines and done some pretty crazy, yet awesome, stuff. As with a lot of people these photos get lost in the masses in my iPhoto and things become disorganized and I never really look at them again.
Here comes Instagram to the rescue. Although I didn’t do it at the time for this reason, I know can scroll through my Instagram feed and be met by some of the best photos I took from various trips around the world and remember great times I had with friends, all curated to some of my favorite photos. I can scroll back and see photos from when my now-husband and I were still just friends, back to when I was still an awkward sophomore in college and had no idea what the heck I was doing with my life, to graduation and to now while I’m traveling and living abroad and having some of the best times of my life.
These photos remind me of the great times I’ve had and bring back memories I’d otherwise would have forgotten. Whether they have likes, comments or even the famous hashtag, they’re there for me to remember them by for years to come.
Don’t forget to follow my Instagram account where I regularly post photos from all of my adventures!
