Subtle And Simple: Snake Chain Necklace

When it comes to jewelry I prefer subtle and simple, and this gold snake chain necklace is so perfect. It's perfect for summer and casual or dressy.

When it comes to jewelry, I much prefer subtle and simple over big and flashy. Part of that reasoning is that I’m quite small, so big statement jewelry usually just looks awkward on me like I’m a kid trying on mommy’s jewelry. So obviously I try to avoid that look. I tend to lean more towards necklaces as my go-to jewelry since I don’t have pierced ears and I find bracelets annoying when I type. I also don’t think it’s necessary to spend lots of money on jewelry, because it’s totally possible to get subtle, simple and beautiful pieces for relatively cheaply.

I found this double snakes chain necklace from Primark, which some of you may never have heard of as it’s only just branched into the US. I bought it for €2.50, which is an incredible price, even for something that’s essentially made of glorified metal.

I absolutely love the color of  this necklace because it’s sort of a halfway house between gold and rose gold and it’s just so simple, yet beautiful at the same time. I love the way it feels on my neck as well because it’s so lightweight it’s almost as if it’s not really there.

This specific one has chain links in the back so you can adjust the length, which I think is great because I can tailor it to fit whatever neckline I’m wearing that specific day.

The only downside is the two separate bits can get tangled amongst themselves so you sometimes have to untwist them. Overall though it’s not a problem. What’s so great about this is that it really can be dressed up or down, and I don’t like to own too much jewelry so anything that doubles is awesome. Since it’s so simple you can easily wear it with just shorts and a t-shirt, but it wouldn’t even remotely look out of place with a business suit or cocktail dress either, color permitting.

I’ve never owned a snake chain necklace before, and I’m totally sold on them. The slight bit of detail to the chain just adds a whole extra level of dimension to it.

I have to say, this necklace looks worth much more than the €2.50 I spent, which is partially why I love it so much. And I’m sure you could spend nearly €200 and honestly not see a huge difference in the way it looks from a distance. This necklace is perfect for the summer because of it’s light and a shiny color and will look great with dresses and lower necklines–unlike in the winter where all I do is wear scarves.

Snake chain necklaces are definitely becoming more popular and although I think they’ve been around for a while, they’re just starting to filter down to the more affordable stores like Primark, H&M, Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe, which I think is fantastic because they look so sophisticated and it’s hard to go wrong with them.

Although I bought this necklace from Primark, it’s very simple so you can find similar versions in lots of different places.
